Marion Donald Spence, Sr.
Marion Donald Spence, Sr., of Piggott, Ark., passed away August 6, 2017, at the age of 86 years old.
He was born on April 1, 1931, in Cooter, Mo., and was the son of the late Fred R. Spence and Ruby P. Parks.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict as a combat medic and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a 1st Sergeant.
He was married to Janice Rose Conley and to this union three children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Spence, William Spence, Bobby Dee Spence and Harold Spence; and a sister, Demetra Shepherd.
Survivors include his three children, Donna Rose Flores and husband Richard, Jamie Cluck and Marion Spence, II, and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Piccinni of Florida. He was the proud grandfather of Amy Flores (Chris) Miller, Richard D. (Arica) Flores, Samantha Flores, Jason Cluck, Aaron (McKenzie) Cluck and Jeremy Cluck, Marion D. Spence III (Jennifer), Matthew Spence, and Joshua Spence; along with 17 great-grandchildren.
Marion was a Master Mason of Herrins Prairie Lodge #693 and a lifetime member and Past Commander of the VFW Lodge #3972 in Cuero, Tex.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel. A funeral service will immediately follow with Shelly Elkins officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Ark.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Jason Cluck, Aaron Cluck, Marion D. Spence, III, Matthew Spence, Joshua Spence, Richard D. Flores and Jeremy Cluck.
Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Wounded Warrior Project.
