Rector Junior High running back Joseph Baker breaks loose for good yardage in a scrimmage game Tuesday of last week against visiting Corning. Baker scored the Junior Cougars' touchdown and John Ford Hendrix added the conversion run as Rector fell to the visitors, 14-8, in a controlled scrimmage. Rector's senior team blanked the Bobcats, 14-0, in the nightcap as a large crowd looked on. Max Ford scored both touchdowns (a pass reception from Hunter McNeely and a returned fumble) for the Cougars and McNeely connected on a conversion pass to Conly Lockhart.

The Rector Cougar football season got underway Tuesday night, as the senior squad fell at Palestine-Wheatley 27-20. They'll now remain idle until week three, as they'll host the Piggott Mohawks on Sept. 15.

As for the junior high team, they'll visit the junior Mohawks tonight, Thursday, Aug. 31, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Parker Field.

Last Tuesday both teams hosted the Corning Bobcats for a scrimmage, with the boys in blue coming out on top in both.
