AAA Announces Classifications

Thursday, September 14, 2017

Recently, the Arkansas Activities Association announced the new classifications for high school sports for the 2018-2020 cycle. The change affects both the Cougars and the Mohawks, as new conference mates will be added beginning in the fall of 2018.

In football, the Mohawks will see longtime conference foe Rivercrest move back up to 4A and out, with the Harrisburg Hornets slated to fill their spot. Otherwise, the usual teams will compete in 3A-3 including Corning, Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, Manila, Newport and Osceola in addition to the Tribe and Hornets.

As for the Rector Cougars, they move back up to 2A for the next cycle but remain in the same football conference. Joining them will be EPC, Marked Tree, Salem, McCrory and Midland as usual with Augusta taking the place of the Earle Bulldogs and Melbourne dropping down from 3A.

In the other sports the lineups will be different, with the Rector Cougars and Marmaduke Greyhounds playing in the 2A-3 with BIC, Riverside, Salem, Sloan-Hendrix, Melbourne and Bay.

As for the other Mohawk teams, they'll compete in conference with Corning, Gosnell, Hoxie, Manila, Osceola, Rivercrest, Trumann and Walnut Ridge.

Again, the changes take effect in the fall of 2018 for the two school year cycle.
