The Clay County Fair gets underway today, Wednesday, Sept. 13, and runs through Saturday, Sept. 16, at the faigrounds in Piggott. In a change made two years ago, the annual pageants held in conjunction with the fair were held this previous Saturday to allow use of the commercial building during the event.

The activities at the fairgrounds today includes the set-up of booths, and checking in livestock and horses. The fairgrounds kitchen will also be open each day of the event, and will be serving both lunch and supper.

Thursday will include the livestock show judging, as the winners will be announced during the afternoon. Meanwhile, Friday will include the popular youth day activities, as students from across the county will make their way to the fairgrounds for special events, informational efforts and fun.

The schedule on Saturday is scheduled to begin with the annual parade at 10 a.m., which will begin at the First Baptist Church in Piggott and make its way to the fairgrounds. Another returning favorite is the canine contest, set for 11 a.m., and The Farmer for a Day will be held from 1 to 2 p.m.

Demolition derby will be on tap for Saturday evening, with the peewee derby at 6:30 p.m. and the main event getting underway at 7.
