The Piggott Mohawk boys golf team finished second in their district at Eagle Mountain in Batesville on Wednesday, Sept. 13, as the Manila Lions took first place for the 3A-3 conference.

With the runner-up finish the Tribe earns a spot in next week's 3A state golf tournament.

Led by medalist J. Burrow, the Lions scorched the course with a 257; as for the Mohawks they shot 279 for second with Tuckerman shooting 312 and Corning finishing with a 334 to round out the top spots.

Pacing the Mohawk effort at the district tournament was Mazin Chase as he shot a solid an 89. Meanwhile Trey Gossett shot 94 and Isaac Langley carded a 96.

Also earning a trip to the state 3A golf tournament for their play as singles were Jonathan Holcomb of Corning and Alex Crandel of Tuckerman.

Crandel's Bulldogs finished third but didn't qualify for state as a team, as did fourth place Corning, fifth place Cedar Ridge, sixth place Rivercrest, seventh place Riverside and eighth place Hoxie.

The 3A boys state tournament will be played on the Mountain Ranch Golf Club course, located at Fairfield Bay on Greer's Ferry Lake, and is hosted by Clinton. Practice rounds will be played Sunday, Oct. 1, with the competition getting underway at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.

The Mohawk team is coached by Alan Rabjohn.
