Lady Mohawk Volleyball Squad in Action

The Piggott Lady Mohawk volleyball team continues to face some of the top regional talent, as they look forward to the upcoming postseason. Last Tuesday, Sept. 26, they visited Brookland and were swept by the talented Lady Bearcats. Thursday evening they visited perinniel powerhouse Westside, and gave the Lady Warriors a strong test. Tuesday evening they were slated to visit conference foe CRA.

The Lady Bearcats proved to be inhospitable last Tuesday, sweeping the night as they hosted the Tribe.

The junior high match went to the hosts 25-15 and 25-13 and they took the varsity set 25-18, 25-13 and 25-18.

Thursday evening the Mohawks made the trip to Westside, and made a strong showing against the host squad.

In the junior high set the Lady Mohawks put up a good fight, eventually falling 25-21, 28-26 and 15-13.

On the night they were paced by Macey Williams with 29 assists, four digs and three aces. Meanwhile, Claire Bellers had 15 kills, three digs and two aces; Maddie Reeves recorded nine digs and six kills; Annalee Massey had six kills and six digs and Elise Gossett had four digs to her credit.

In the nightcap the Tribe put up a strong showing in the middle sets, as they fell in four 17-25, 25-21, 25-27 and 11-25.

Leading way was Madison Rahn with an 18 for 18 night serving with 30 assists, 12 digs, six kills and an ace. Meanwhile, Emily Trosper had 10 kills and 10 digs, Ally Kilbreath finished with eight kills and four digs, Harley Earnheart had eight kills, Lexi Herren recorded eight digs and Hannah Powell was a force to be reckoned with as she had 22 digs to her credit.

Thursday evening the Lady Mohawks will host Ridgefield Christian at PHS and the team will “Go Pink” in observance of breast cancer awareness month. A special fundraiser is also planned.

They'll wrap up the home schedule Monday night, Oct. 9, hosting Midland as senior night festivities are scheduled. All teams will be on the road for the final two matches of the year, as they'll travel to Trumann on Tuesday, Oct. 10, and to Walnut Ridge on Thursday, Oct. 12. The junior high conference tournament will be played Saturday, Oct. 14, at Midland with the senior tournament slated for Oct. 14 to 17, also being played at Midland High School. The state 3A volleyball tournament will be played Oct. 23 to 28, at Hoxie.
