Bohanon and Bulldogs Too Much for Cougars
The Rector Cougars hosted the league-leading Earle Friday night at Temerian Field. The Bulldogs, led by Division One prospect Gerry Bohanon at quarterback, scored early and often in the first half of the contest en route to a 64-0 win.
The Cougars lost the coin toss prior to kickoff Friday night, and gave the potent Earle offense first shot at scoring. And, the visitors took full advantage of the opportunity, scoring on the first drive to make it 6-0. The Bulldogs also added the two-point conversion, taking an 8-0 lead less than a minute in.
After a Cougar drive stalled moments later, the visitors added another touchdown, and conversion, to make it 16-0 with just over nine minutes to go in the first quarter.
The Earle squad proved to be inhospitable visitors, scoring six more touchdowns in the first quarter, and adding a handful of two-point conversions and a couple of PATs, as they ran the lead to 52-0 by the end of one.
Neither team put points up on the board in the second quarter, as the Bulldogs enjoyed the 50-plus point lead at the break.
Bohanon added a passing touchdown in the third quarter, although the PAT was no good, as the score moved to 58-0. The Bulldogs scored one more time late in the contest, and this time the two point conversion attempt was no good, as the final score was set.
The Cougars will be on the road Friday night, as they travel to Cross County and take on the Thunderbirds. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cherry Valley. Last week the T-birds visited Salem and brought home a 20-14 victory.
