Single Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Local Man

The Arkansas State Police report a local man was killed in a single vehicle crash Friday evening east of Piggott. According to the fatal crash summary provided by the ASP, the accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on U.S Highway 62, just north of the intersection with Highway 1.

Reportedly a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck was being driven southbound by Joshua Hurte, 34, of Rector, when a front tire blew-out sending the vehicle out of control. The truck then struck an embankment to a private drive causing it to overturn.

Killed in the crash was a passenger in the truck, Charles Lucas, 58, also of Rector. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by deputy coroner Jarrod Lowe.

Hurte was transported from the scene to Regional One Health in Memphis for treatment.

Weather conditions were clear and the roadway dry at the time of the crash. The fatal mishap was investigated by Trooper Jarrod Lyerly.
