Rector Hosting Peewee Football Playoffs
Temerian Field in Rector will be the site for the first round of playoffs for the Northeast Arkansas Youth Football League, with the games scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 21. The second round will be played next Saturday, Oct. 28, at Harrisburg with the championship games slated for the following weekend, Saturday, Nov. 4, with the site to be determined.
There are two brackets, including the “Super Bowl Bracket” for sixth graders and the “Cotton Bowl Bracket” for fifth grade teams. Both Rector squads will be competing in their respective brackets, with the sixth graders coming in as the undefeated regular season champs from their division and the fifth grade (3-3) as the three-seeds in theirs.
This marks the 21st year for the youth league in Northeast Arkansas, which includes teams from across the region. Included in the Super Bowl Bracket, along with Rector, are Valley View, Hoxie, McCrory, Wynne, Osceola, Rivercrest and Marked Tree. The Cotton Bowl Bracket includes the Cougars and Valley View, Earle, Wynne, EPC, Osceola, Rivercrest and McCrory.
The Rector fifth grade team will be playing in the first game of the day, as they take on undefeated Valley View at 9 a.m. With a win they'll advance to the semi-finals, and will play the winner of the Earle-Wynne game at 10 a.m. next Saturday in Harrisburg.
Meanwhile, the sixth grade squad will meet Osceola in the first round with kickoff scheduled for 11:30 a.m. With a win they'll advance to take on the winner of the Rivercrest-Marked Tree game at 1:45 p.m. next Saturday in Harrisburg.
The sixth grade team finished their season unbeaten, with wins over McCrory (36-0), Hoxie (20-8), Cedar Ridge (38-6), Manila (48-0), Marked Tree (20-12) and EPC (34-0).
The squad is coached by David Mosley and Nathan Henderson and those on the roster include, Jason Castillo, Gabe Moseley, Gage Thompson, Cooper Rabjohn, Jacob Cox, Ashton Scott, Tyler Edmonds, Trey Green, Jacob Mooneyhan, Triston Brown, Brandon Blount, Drew Henderson, Haden Rabah, Carter Hill and Lawson Nixon.
Games Saturday are set for 9, 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:45, 2, 3:15, 4:30 and 5:45 p.m.
Admission is three dollars for adults, and two dollars for students, and event organizers note the concession stand will be open and offering a variety of items.
“We want to invite everyone to come out and support our Cougar teams, and enjoy some great football and great weather,” noted Coach Nate Henderson.
