Campbell Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash
A Campbell man was killed in a two vehicle accident early Monday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and Highway 135--commonly referred to as the Corning Y.
According to reports from the Arkansas State Police and Clay County Sheriff's Department, Anthony Hibbing, 24, was killed when he apparently ran the stop sign at the intersection and struck a semi-truck head-on.
The crash occurred around 6:35 a.m. Monday, as Hibbing was southbound in a 2005 Ford Focus. The report indicated the roadway was dry, and conditions clear at the time.
Reportedly, Hibbing approached the intersection of the east Y with Highway 135 and failed to stop at the stop sign. His vehicle then struck a northbound 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck head-on which was travelling toward the west side of the Y.
Hibbing was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and his body was transported to Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. The driver of the semi-truck, who was not identified in the ASP preliminary fatal crash report, was not injured.
According to Sheriff Terry Miller, Hibbing was employed by a construction company working in the Newport area and had been commuting from Campbell the past several months.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. Todd Harris of the Arkansas State Police.
