The Rector Cougars traveled to Armorel Monday night and dropped a 63-42 decision to the Tigers. The hosts enjoyed a 30-20 halftime lead over the Cougars, and extended their advantage to 55-34 en route to the victory.
Kirk Beshears led the Rector offensive effort with 11, while sophomore Max Ford finished with nine.
Last Tuesday the Cougars opened the season on the road at Corning, falling to the Bobcats 84 to 68.
Riding a strong start, the Rector squad jumped to an 18-15 lead by the end of the first quarter. But, the hosts outscored the Cougars 25-9 in the second frame as they took a 40-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Bobcats stretched the lead to 62-47 by the end of the third, as they held-on for the non-conference win. Corning dominated the boards, enjoying a 43-29 advantage in rebounds and shot 47 percent from the field as opposed to Rector's 37 percent.
The Cougars were scheduled to host Maynard Tuesday night at RHS, but at last report sources indicated the game had been postponed due to a death related to the Tiger team.
The RHS boys will be back in action Friday, Nov. 17, as they visit the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles at Strawberry. They'll be on the road next Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Imboden to take on the Greyhounds of Sloan-Hendrix.
