Junior Lady 'Hounds Handle Junior Lady Mohawks in Tourney Play
Marmaduke jumped out a 23-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 53-19 win over the Piggott Junior Lady Mohawks in the Fight Like A Girl Cancer Classic this past Saturday in Marmaduke.
Marmaduke scored the first four points as Zoe Massey hit one of two free throws, Tori Sutherland stuck back an offensive rebound and Deavinie Michael hit one of two free throws. Alyssa Manor hit a jumper for Piggott only to see the Junior Lady Greyhounds reel off the next 19 points. Massey score inside, Maranda Crow drilled a three-pointer and Sutherland stuck back an offensive rebound to make it 11-2 with 2:40 left. Crow got a steal and lay-up, Heidi Robinson scored off the fast break as Baylee Whitaker canned a three-ball to make it 18-2. Maranda Bear hit one of two free throws before hitting back to back inside baskets for the Junior Lady Greyhounds.
They extended the lead to 42-6 by the half and led 47-11 after three quarters of play.
Bellers led Piggott with 13 points as Hewitt added three points. Manor chipped in two points as Langley added one point.
Robinson and Michael each scored eight point to lead Marmaduke in scoring as Whitaker and Bear each added six points. Crow scored five points, Pruett and Sutherland scored four points each, Roland and Massey netted three point each as Henry, Hensley and Tuberville each scored two points.
In their season opener last week, the Junior Lady Mohawks easily handled the Campbell Junior Lady Camels 37-8. Bellers had 18 in the win, Langley finished with four points, Emma Grace Hooten had four points, seven rebounds and five assists; Maddie Reeves had eight points and six reboundes and Hewitt had two points and two boards.
The seventh grade Lady Mohawk squad also played two quarters against Campbell, winning 13-10. Langley had eight, Manor had three and Hooten had two.
The Junior Lady Mohawks were slated to visit Cave City on Tuesday.
As for the Junior Lady 'Hounds, they moved to 10-1 and 4-0 in conference Monday night with a 49-30 win over Marked Tree. Pacing the offense was Heidi Robinson with 15.
