Former Piggott Mayor James Morris Dead at 81
Former Piggott Mayor and long-time local businessman James Morris, 81, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. He was born on December 31, 1935, to D.M. “Buster” and Bessie Marie Morris at the family home near Rector, Ark.
Known for both his business interests and his singing voice, he also served as Mayor of Piggott and was an active member of the First General Baptist Church.
In August of 1969 he partnered with the late Bob Fry in taking over the local International Harvester dealership and remained associated with the company until the mid-1970s. Other later business ventures included Morris Chevrolet, as the family took over the local dealership in the 1980s.
In his later years he assisted his wife, Wanda, in operating Piggott Florist and remained active until his health would no longer allow.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 12, at First General Baptist Church of Piggott. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery.
