Veterans Day was marked Friday, Nov. 10, at the Veterans Memorial on the courthouse lawn in Piggott. Once again hosting the traditional wreath ceremony were the local American Legion and VFW posts. The organizations also hosted the annual open house at the War Memorial Building for Veterans and their families throughout the day.

VFW Post Commander Steve Tate offered the welcome, assisted by American Legion Post Commander Scott Allman and VFW Auxiliary President Jon Wellman.

Wellman also shared a piece on Veterans Day, and afterward Tate introduced the local and regional dignitaries.

Making comments were Veterans Services Officer Tommy Huggins, State Rep. Joe Jett, State Senator Blake Johnson, Clay County Judge Mike Patterson, Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller and Piggott Mayor Jim Poole.

Tate, Allman and Wellman then had the honor of completing the traditional observance by placing the wreath at the base of the Veterans memorial. “Taps” was performed by Christopher Hufty of the Rector Cougar Marching Band.
