Greyhound Hoops Teams in Action, Set for WBC Tourney
The Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds beat Cave City 58-42 on Saturday, as they extended their season record to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The 'Hounds visit Hillcrest Thursday evening and swept a set with the Lady Screamin' Eagles. They're next slated to visit EPC on Monday, Nov. 27. The following evening, Tuesday, Nov. 28, they take on the Maynard Lady Tigers in the first round of the Williams Baptist College Tournament at Walnut Ridge. The game is scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
With a win, they'll advance to take on the winner of the Bay-Hillcrest/Viola game at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, in the semi-finals. The finals are slated for 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.
Also earning byes in the first round were Pocahontas and Corning.
Regular season play resumes Thursday, Dec. 7, with a conference set at BIC against the Lady Mustangs.
Meanwhile, Homecoming at BIC proved inhospitable for the Marmaduke Greyhounds, as they dropped a 46-43 decision to the Mustangs Friday Nov. 17. Getting off to a strong start, the Marmaduke squad enjoyed an early lead and took a 24-21 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.
But, the hosts came out hot in the third quarter, taking the frame 11-4, as they took a 32-28 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Bryson Horton led all scorers with 19 for the 'Hounds while Derek Agee finished with 17. Pacing BIC on offense was Devyn Pemberton with 14 points.
With the loss the Greyhounds move to 7-3 on the season, and 4-1 in 2A-3 conference play.
In the early contest the Marmaduke junior high squad rolled over the Mustangs 56-25, paced by Bradley Horton with 21 points and Andy Agee with 11.
Both squads were in action Tuesday evening at Hillcrest, sweeping the set by a wide margin. The senior boys will be taking part in the Williams Baptist College Tournament, and have drawn a bye in the first round. They'll play Sloan-Hendrix at 6 p.m.Wednesday, Nov. 29, at WBC. With a win they'll play in the semi-finals at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 against the winner of the Corning-Riverside/Maynard game.
The final will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.
