Deadline Near for DHS Christmas Effort
The staff of the Clay County Department of Human Services will be accepting applications from families wanting to be included in their annual Christmas project through this Friday, Dec. 1. The long-running local program, which has helped families in need since the mid 1980s, seeks to assist kids 16 years old and younger. Applications from families may be submitted at the office in Piggott, located at 187 North Second Avenue.
As they have for many years, the DHS will then match children and families with those willing to provide assistance. Over the course of the decades it has been in existence the program has helped thousands, and has become a popular seasonal program for youth groups, clubs and Sunday School classes wanting to make a difference in their communities.
Organizers note they prefer those doing the adopting purchase the gifts, wrap and deliver them—although other arrangments can be made if needed.
Of course, monetary donations are also accepted, if purchasing and delivering items is not an option for a particular giver. The current goal is to have every name on the list adopted, and the items delivered by the week of Dec. 18.
Those interested in adopting/sponsoring a child or family, or wanting additional information, may call the DHS office in Piggott at 870 598-2282, or stop by 187 North Second Avenue between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Fridays.
