Lady Hounds Advance in Gerald Jennings Classic
Marmaduke used a 25-6 second quarter to erase a five point deficit after the first quarter as the Lady Greyhounds cruised to a 60-35 win over the Lady Colts in the Gerald Jennings Girls' Classic this past Saturday in Lake City.
The Lady Colts jumped out a 4-0 lead before Emma Foster hit a jumper in the lane and Reesa Hampton drilled a three-pointer for the Lady Greyhounds to make it 5-4 Maramduke. Rivercrest scored three straight baskets before Karlie Gilliam canned a three-ball for the Lady Greyhounds making it 10-8 Lady Colts with 1:53 left. Angel Johnson hit a jumper for Marmaduke only to see Rivercrest make a three-pointer and get a stick back basket to make the score 15-10 Lady Colts after one.
Hampton cut the lead to 15-13 with a three-pointer early in the second quarter as Rivercrest made it 17-13 with a basket down low. Marmaduke went on a 17-0 run as Foster converted an old-fashioned three-point play, Gilliam hit one of two free throws, Lentz hit one of two free throws as Foster scored back to back baskets in the paint to make it 22-17. Gilliam hit two free throws, Johnna Rae Baine hit one of three free throws being fouled attempting a three-pointer, Foster scored inside again as Hampton drilled a three-ball making it 30-17 Lady Greyhounds with 2:43 left. The Lady Colts scored inside, Lentz hit one of two free throws for Marmaduke as Foster added a jumper for the Lady Greyhounds, Rivercrest got a stick back only to see Lentz score inside for the Lady Greyhounds right before the buzzer to make it 35-21 Marmaduke at the half.
Anna Meredith scored inside for Marmaduke to open the third quarter scoring as the Lady Colts hit one of two free throws making it 37-22 Lady 'Hounds. Hampton got a layup for Marmaduke before Rivercrest scored back to back baskets to make the score 39-26 Lady Greyhounds with 3:28 left. Lentz hit two free throws for Marmaduke after Rivercrest was whistled for technical foul as Meredith hit a jumper and added two free throws as the Lady Greyhounds pushed their lead to 45-26 after three quarters.
Scout Weatherford drilled a three-pointer for Marmaduke's first points of the fourth quarter as the Lady Colts had a stick back and two free throws to make it 48-30 Lady Greyhounds. Hampton hit two free throws for Marmaduke, the Lady Colts hit one of two free throws before the Lady Greyhounds got two free throws from Foster and a steal and layup from Johnson to make the score 54-33 Marmaduke with 3:59 left. Johnson hit one of two free throws from the Lady Greyhounds and followed with two more free throws, Maggie Mays hit two free throws for Marmaduke as Johnson added one of two free throws for the Lady Greyhounds making it 60-33. Rivercrest added a late basket to make the final score 60-35 Marmaduke.
Foster led Marmaduke with 15 points as Hampton added 13 points. Johnson finished with eight points, Lentz, Gilliam and Meredith each scored six points, Weatherford had three points, Mays had two points as Baine chipped in a point for the Lady Greyhounds.
