The streets of Rector came alive with the sights, the sounds and the colors of the Christmas season last Thursday, Dec. 7, with the annual Christmas Parade and Reception. Serving as grand marshals for this year's parade were the Rector High School Marching Cougar Band, fresh-off their championship performance in the state marching competition.

With parade-goers lining the streets, and standing in tight clusters in an effort to stay warm, this year's procession began. With a bright combination of entries, including Miss Clay County, Rector's own Sawyer Hendrix, those taking part made their way to the friendly confines of the community center.

At the Rector Community Center the public gathered for hot chocolate, and sounds of the season, as they were treated to a performance by the RHS beginner band.

Next, members of the second and third grade classes at Rector Elementary School entertained with a special song.

Those attending the annual reception also had the chance to hear a number of Christmas tunes performed by the combined Rector High School senior high band, which includes those in grades seven through 12. The RHS senior high chorus also sang several numbers, and were joined by the combined band for a sing-a-long of traditional carols with the audience.

During the reception parade organizers reported the entry by the First General Baptist Church had earned first place in the float competition.
