PHS Holds Fall Sports Assembly

A special awards ceremony was held Tuesday, Dec. 12, to recognize the members of the Piggott Mohawk tennis and volleyball teams. Coaches handed out recognition to a number of athletes, including two who were chosen as All-State performers.

Mohawk Tennis

Long-time PHS tennis coach Paul Seegraves recognized the members of his boys and girls teams, who once again qualified members for the 3A state tennis tournament.

All of the members of the boys team were recognized as district champions with medals, hile All-District honors went to seniors Carrington McDaniel and Josh Lyman along with sophomores Cooper Harris and Michael Palmer. McDaniel was also recognized for setting four new school records, while Lyman and Palmer have one new school record to their credit.

Lyman and McDaniel were also chosen for All-State Honorable Mentions, and McDaniel was named the MaxPreps player of the year. Palmer and Kaleb Chadwell earned recognition as most improved.

Lady Mohawks

All of the members of the girls team were recognized as district champions with medals. Chosen All-District, All-State and MaxPreps player of the year was senior standout Emilee Seegraves. She was also recognized for setting 13 new school years, and with the Lady Mohawk Career Achievement Award.

This year's most improved Lady Mohawk players were Destini Chase and Maggie Williams.

Volleyball

Coach Codie Lancester also recognized members of the Lady Mohawk volleyball teams at the assembly, handing out awards to the members of the junior and senior squads. Among the recognition for the senior squad was the All-State selection of sophomore Madison “Sassy” Rahn.

Rahn was also named All-Conference, along with Emily Trosper and Hannah Powell.

The senior squad finished the season at 12-12, and posted some excellent numbers. Lexi Herren had 17 aces, 219 receptions and 169 digs; Rahn had 23 solo blocks, 24 aces, 66 kills, 110 digs and 557 assists; Powell recorded 44 aces, 331 digs and 484 receptions and Trosper had 13 aces, 17 solo blocks, 93 digs, 216 receptions and 195 kills.

Herren was recognized as most improved, Powell earned the defense award, Rahn was recipient of the offense award, Taylor Seal earned the Mohawk Award, Carlie Vancil and Trosper shared the teammate award and this year's most valuable player was also Trosper.

Junior Team

The Lady Mohawk junior volleyball team finished the season at 19-8, winning both the conference and district championships. All-Conference players included Macey Williams, Maddie Reeves, Annalee Massey and Claire Bellers.

During the season Massey recorded 24 aces, had 92 digs and 120 kills; Reeves had 46 aces, 92 digs, 105 kills and 202 receptions; Williams had 13 kills, 37 aces and 364 assists and Bellers had 46 aces, 96 digs, 130 receptions and 140 kills.

At the assembly, Bellers was presented with the teammate award while the Mohawk Award went to Elise Gossett. Reeves earned the defense award, Williams the offense award, Massey was the most improved player and Bellers was named the most valuable player.

Postseason honors for the football Mohawks will be handed-out at their annual awards banquet, set for Saturday, Jan. 6, at PHS.
