Lady Mohawks Split at Corning

The Piggott Lady Mohawk basketball teams split at Corning last Tuesday, Jan. 9. Meanwhile, Friday night's game at Hoxie was postponed due to the weather.

In the varsity contest at Corning, the Lady Bobcats jumped to an early lead, and never looked back, as they cruised to a 77-25 decision. Leading the Lady Mohawks on the night with 13 points was Taylor Seal.

In the early game the junior girls notched a 32-30 conference win over the host Lady Bobcats.

With both teams scoring in single digits, the hosts took a 9-2 lead by the end of the first quarter. But, the Piggott girls responded with a 13-5 second, as they enjoyed a 15-14 lead at intermission.

The Lady Mohawks outscored the Lady Bobcats 9-7 in the third quarter, and held-on down the stretch as Corning took the fourth 9-8 to set the final score.

Claire Bellers was the only player in double figures as she scored 14, followed by Maddie Reeves with 6; Shae Hewitt with 5 and Grace Hooten and Emma Langley with 4 points each.

Wednesday evening the PHS girls dropped their first round game in the First National Bank Battle of the Border at Corning, falling to Maynard.

The Lady Mohawks are slated to take on the Lady Cougars at 5 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 18, in the consolation bracket at Corning High School.
