The Rector Lady Cougars came from behind to beat the Piggott Lady Mohawks 53-42 Thursday evening at Corning. The meeting between the two longtime county rivals was in the First National Bank Battle of the Border Tournament, hosted by Corning High School. In the boys bracket, the Piggott Mohawks also battled back in their game with Ridgefield Christian but came up short by a final of 53-48. Both the Piggott and Rector boys will be in action tonight in pool play.

The other games on Thursday evening included a consolation bracket girls game between Missouri Bootheel teams Campbell and Hayti, with the Lady Camels holding on for a 57-51 win despite a late run by the Lady Indians from Hayti. In the other boy's game, it was a cake walk for the Maynard Tigers, as they beat the Southland Rebels, from Cardwell, Mo., 86-30.

The schedule for today, Friday, Jan. 19, begins at 5 p.m. with Maynard and Westside in girls play, followed by the host Lady Bobcats and Sloan-Hendrix also in the girls winner's bracket. The Piggott Mohawks will take on the host Bobcats around 7:30 p.m. and the nightcap will feature the Rector Cougars and the Maynard Tigers. The Cougars also easily handled Southland on Wednesday night by a final of 62-25.

Games are set to begin at noon on Saturday with the Lady Mohawks playing Hayti in the consolation bracket. The entire schedule for the day will be shared as it is set with bracket and pool play on Friday evening.
