HPMEC Hosting Student Art Show at City Market
The work of young regional artists is on display this week at the Piggott City Market, as the local business once again hosts the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Student Art Exhibition. According to event organizers, the art work will be on display through Saturday, Jan. 27.
Now in its 16th year, the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum annual juried art competition invites students from within a 50-mile radius of Piggott to submit art for exhibition by the museum. This year a total of 78 works were submitted by students in 10 different school districts in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
Juried prizes for this year's competition have been provided by the Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center of Piggott. This year, event organizers are also offering a visitor's choice award, and the public is encouraged to stop by and vote for their favorite prior to Friday. A reception for the students, and an awards ceremony, will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27. (In the print edition the date was mistakenly reported as Feb. 27, although it is actually this week. The CCTD always strives to provide accurate information, and we apologize for the mistake.)
HPMEC is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site, located at 1021 West Cherry Street in Piggott. Tours originate on the hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
