Lady 'Hounds Roll over Flippin at District
Marmaduke got off to a slow start before righting the ship in the second quarter as the Lady Greyhounds got 19 points from Reesa Hampton in their 59-25 win over Flippin in the 2A-2 district tournament this past Monday in Lepanto.
Hampton opened the game with a three-pointer as Flippin hit a jumper to make it 3-2 Lady Greyhounds early in the opening quarter. Natalie Lentz hit one of two free throws, Emma Foster hit one of two free throws before Angel Johnson scored inside to give Marmaduke a 7-2 lead. The Lady Bobcats scored back to back baskets to make it 7-6 as the Lady Greyhounds got a late basket from Foster to make it 9-6 Marmaduke after one.
Flippin hit two free throws making it 9-8 Lady 'Hounds only to see Marmaduke score the next 13 points as Hampton hit two free throws, Lentz hit a jumper in the lane before Hampton scored inside and added a three-ball to make it 18-8 with 3:16 left. Foster hit one of two free throws, Scout Weatherford hit one of two free throws as Foster had a stick back making it 22-8 Lady Greyhounds. The Lady Bobcats hit two free throws, Anna Meredith hit two free throws for Marmaduke, Flippin hit one of two free throws before the Lady Greyhounds got two free throws from Hampton and a basket inside from Lentz to make the halftime score 28-11 Marmaduke.
Marmaduke opened the third quarter with an 11-0 run as Weatherford canned a three-pointer, Johnson hit two free throws, Hampton hit two free throws and added a three-ball before Lentz hit a jumper in the lane to make it 39-11 Lady 'Hounds with 4:33 left. Flippin hit three of four free throws on back to back trips to the line and added back to back baskets to cut the lead to 39-18 only to see Hampton and Meredith drill back to back three-pointers to push the Marmaduke lead to 45-18. Flippin was whistled for a technical foul causing a player to foul out of the game giving the Lady Bobcats only four players to finish the game. Lentz hit one of the two technical free throws before Weatherford drilled a three-ball and Foster and Johnson scored back to back baskets to make the score 53-18 Marmaduke at the end of three.
With the mercy clock running the entire fourth quarter, Flippin scored the first seven points to make it 53-25 Lady 'Hounds with 2:36 left. Marmaduke scored the last six points of the game as Karlie Gilliam scored inside, Maggie Mays scored off the break and Maranda Crow scored inside to make the final score 59-25 Marmaduke.
Hampton was the only player in double figures as Foster and Lentz each scored eight points. Weatherford tossed in seven points, Johnson finished with six points, Meredith added five points as Mays, Gilliam and Crow each had two points.
