Dorothy L. Jackson
Dorothy L. Jackson, 86, of Jonesboro, Ark., passed from this life Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center. She was born November 5, 1931, in Greenway, Ark., to the late William O. and Bessie I. Shaffer.
Dorothy was a Pastorís wife for 49 years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was very active with the Encouragerís Sunday School Class. Dorothy was a graduate of Williams Baptist College, East Texas Baptist College and Arkansas State University.
She worked as a public school teacher for five years before becoming a professor at Williams Baptist College. Dorothy later retired from WBC after a long career, her last 15 years as vice president for student development.
She and her husband, Lendol, were active with Arkansas Campers on Mission. Dorothy also did many mission trips outside of the United States. She later worked for the Pregnancy Resource Center of Jonesboro for eight years. Dorothy enjoyed camping, hunting, the outdoors, coaching and sports. She also loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Rev. Lendol Jackson, and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son, David (Shelia) Jackson of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughter, Linda (Eric) Smith of Powhatan, Ark.; two sisters, Nina Long of Michigan and Naomi Shaffer of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, Emerson Memorial Chapel, Jonesboro, with Larry Bailey and Dr. Jimmy Millikin officiating. Burial will follow at McDaniel Cemetery of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel.
