Regional Tournament Update

The 1A-2 regional tournament semi's at Armorel featured a pair of nail-biters in the boys bracket Friday night, as the pair of games were decided by a total of four points. In the early game the host Tigers squeaked by the Rector Cougars 53-51, erasing a four point halftime deficit. In the nightcap the Bay Yellowjackets battled top-seeded ICC and edged by the other Cougar team in the bracket 46-44.

In the girls' bracket, Norfork rolled over Maynard 76-40, while the Bay girls also advanced to the title game with a 49-42 win over Mammoth Spring.

At Lepanto, the Lady Greyhounds of Marmaduke fell to Earle 54-43, and move into today's third-fourth place seeding game at noon against Brinkley.

At Armorel today, Saturday, Feb. 24, the Lady Tigers of Maynard will face Mammoth Spring at noon for third-fourth place seeding for next week's state tourney. Afterward, at 1:30, the Cougars of Rector High will take on the Cougars of Izard County Consolidated in the boy's seeding contest.

The girls' championship between Norfork and Bay is set for 6 p.m. and the boys title game between Armorel and Bay will follow at 7:30.

The state 1A basketball tournament will get underway next week at Morrilton, hosted by Wonderview. With a win in the seeding game Saturday the Cougars will get a bye until Wednesday, while the fourth place finisher will play at 11:30 a.m. Monday against the fourth place team from Region 5. Woodlawn and Dermott will be playing for those seedings today in their regional.
