Lady Mohawk Softball Squad Off to Rough Start
The Piggott Lady Mohawk softball team is still looking for their first win of the season, after beginning this year's campaign at 0-4. The squad was scheduled to be in action Tuesday afternoon at Rivercrest, although the final score was not available as of press time.
Coach Melissa Hopkins and the squad began the season on the road, as they travelled to Cave City and fell to the Cave Women by a final of 11-4 on March 6. They were back on the road on Thursday, March 8, with a contest at Pocahontas and fell to the talented Lady Redskins 16-11 in what amounted to a slugfest. The following day the squad visited cross-county rival Corning and fell by two runs, 9-7, to the Lady Bobcats.
Monday afternoon the girls visited Lake City to take on the Riverside Lady Rebels, and fell by a single run 8-7. Piggott's Hannah Powell and Madison Rahn each had three hits on the game, with Powell driving in two of the Lady Mohawk runs.
In addition to Tuesday afternoon's game with Rivercrest, the Lady Mohawks are scheduled to host Walnut Ridge this Thursday, March 15. Saturday they're slated to play in the Brookland Bearcat Blast and will take on Barton. Afterward, the squad will remain idle through spring break.
