Earlier this year the quorum court approved a resolution which named the Clay County as a Purple Heart County. Recently, members of the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart visited Piggott and presented a special plaque to Judge Mike Patterson. The county has also acquired signs which are being placed along state highways entering the county. Those on hand for the presentation were Chapter Commander Everett Evans, Mickey Hoggard, and Freddie Herren with the Military Order of the Purple Heart along with Judge Patterson.

The three are members of the Eric S. Smallwood Chapter, #708, of Jonesboro.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart was created by an act of Congress in 1958. Those wanting additional information may visit www.purpleheart.org
