Rector Sports Complex Hosting Annual Glen Sain Invitational
Spring and summer ball is underway at the Rector Sports Complex, as most afternoons and weekends are seeing a lot of action. In addition to the RHS Baseball Cougars, Junior High Baseball Cougars, Lady Cougar Softball and Junior High Lady Cougar Softball teams, many of the younger boys and girls are practicing on every field in preparation for the season to come.
This weekend will also mark the return of one of the premier events of the season, with the Glen Sain Pre-Season Invitational Baseball Tournament.
“We already have several teams signed up for the tournament, and plan to have some great barbecue and other specialty ballgame food,” board member April Lindsey noted. “Plan your lunch and dinner at the park and watch some great baseball.”
She noted there will be three age groups playing in the tournament, with games set for Friday and all day on Saturday, April 13 and 14. Age groups include the seven and eight year olds; nine and 10 year olds and the 11 and 12 year old teams.
“We would like to thank Glen Sain Motor Sales, Inc., and Danny Ford for sponsoring this tournament every year,” Lindsey added. “We're also planning to host a softball tournament on May 4 and 5, and will be providing more details in the near future.”
The tournament is held as a major fundraiser for the local local complex, which serves dozens of area kids.
“We are also planning a raffle for this summer as an additional fundraiser for the complex,” Lindsey added. “ It will be for a certified Rawlings official Major League baseball personally signed by Chris Carpenter in August of 2016. It is signed and numbered and has a certificate of authenticity. We'll have more details on the drawing soon.”
The public is also encouraged to stop by during the season to take in a ballgame, or volunteer their time.
“Stop by any time to watch games or practices at the complext, and support the youth of our town,” she added. “If you would like to volunteer your time and efforts just contact any of the Rector Sports Complex board members—we'll find a spot for you.”
In addition to Lindsey, Rector Sports Complex board members are Mark Vavak, Nate Henderson, Letecia Dooley, Perry Tucker, Kay Tucker, Summer Wolfenbarger, Sara Parmenter, Lyndsey Bell and Brad Green.
