Mohawk Track Team Competes at Gosnell
The Mohawk senior track teams took part in the Gosnell Senior Pirate Invitational last week, taking third overall. The boys team didn't fare so well against very tough competition, although senior standout Nate Mallard won the shot put by a wide margin.
Jordan Tate took first in the shot put for the Tribe, then backed that up with a third in the discus. Taylor Seal also generated points, taking second in both the 100 meter and 100 hurdles. Shi Higdon was also in the points for the girls, running fifth in the 400 and eighth in the 800 meter races.
In addition to Mallard's first place finish in the shot, as he edged second place by some seven feet, Brett Burns was second in the 1600, Sky Wright was second in the 100 and Jacob Scott ran fourth in the 200. The 4x800 relay team also took third place honors with legs by Matt Bowers, Corbin Midkiff, Nick Tillman and Spencer Hardin.
The junior Mohawks will travel to Osceola on Thursday for the 3A-3 district meet, with the senior meet set for next Monday, also at Osceola High School.
