Softball Cougars Roll Into Late Season Play

The Rector Lady Cougars continue their late-season roll, winning four straight in the past week. The RHS softball squad swept Marmaduke, then posted wins over Hillcrest and Blytheville at the sports complex. They were slated to visit Hillcrest on Tuesday, to wrap up the home-and-away conference set.

Madi Hobbs continued to be the workhouse in the circle for the Lady Cougars, earning all four of the wins.

The Lady Cougars beat Marmaduke 13-2 and 5-1 in a twin bill on Tuesday, April 10. In the first game, Hobbs faced just 25 batters as she struck out 5 and gave up nine hits on the game. Leading the way at the plate were Mylesa Gant with a three-for-four day with three RBI and two runs scored; Hobbs with a three-for-four appearance with two RBI and three runs scored; Haleigh Ellis was three-for-four with an RBI and run scored and Sawyer Hendrix with a three-for-four appearance and two runs scored. Meanwhile, Madison Stokes was two-for-three with two RBI and a run scored; Shianne Rients was two-for-four with a run scored and two RBI; Michaela Rients was one-for-four with an RBI and a run scored and Colbie Robinson drew four walks, scoring two runs in the process.

In the second game, Gant and Hobbs each drove in two runs as the Lady Cougars prevailed. Scoring runs were Hendrix (2), Robinson (2) and Gant.


The Lady Cougars followed up the win over Marmaduke Thursday with an 11-5 victory over Hillcrest at home. Again, Hobbs got the nod and the win, giving up eight hits and striking out eight of the Lady Screamin' Eagles while giving up just two walks. On the game she faced 34 Hillcrest batters.

At the plate, four players had two RBI each, including Hendrix, Gant, Ellis and Alexis McKnight. Hendrix also scored three runs, Robinson scored twice, with the other runs scattered along the lineup.


Hobbs had another good showing Friday, working to just 27 batters as the Lady Cougars downed Blytheville 18-8. Leading the offense was Gant and Gracie Cox, as they each drove in four runs. Meanwhile, McKnight drove in two and scored three times; Hendrix drove in one and scored three runs; Madison Stokes drove in a run and scored twice; Robinson again drew four walks and scored three times; Alexis Herrera scored twice and Hobbs helped her own cause with a run scored.

In addition to Tuesday's road game at Strawberry, the Lady Cougars were slated to close out the regular season Thursday at the Rector Sports Complex as they take on Armorel
