Voter Registration Deadline Monday for Primary
Those planning to vote in the upcoming preferrential primaries are reminded of the deadline for registering. By law in Arkansas, those intending to vote must register at least 30 days prior to the election if they have not voted in several election cycles. “Since April 22, falls on a Sunday the final day for registering will be the following day, Monday, April 23,” Clay County Clerk Pat Poole said of the deadline. “Or, if you've changed your name or moved be sure to notify us so that we can make the changes and insure you're in the right precinct.”
The primary will be held Tuesday, May 22, and early voting is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 7, and continue through Monday, May 21. Early voting may be done at the clerk's office in either the Piggott or Corning courthouses, and extended hours will be observed. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday of those two weeks, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday 12, and again on Saturday, May 19. Early voting will then continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 21. The polls will be open the following day at the usual locations.
Those wanting additional information, or to check their registration status, may contact Poole's office in Piggott at 598-2813.
