'Hounds Drop Game at Marked Tree
An 11 run third inning by Marked Tree was too much for Marmaduke to overcome as the Indians went on to an 18-3 win over the Greyhounds this past Thursday in Marked Tree.
Landen McKinney grounded out leading off for Marmaduke as Mitchell Juneau struck out looking. Jackson Lewallen walked as Markus Lamar was hit by a pitch. Jacob Tritch reached on an error before Lewallen was out at the plate trying to score keeping the game scoreless. Eli McCrary grounded out as Aaron Hutchens laced a double. Hutchens stole third and scored when Kentarius Allen reached on an error. Allen was picked off before Chaz Simmons and Braden Francis drew walks. Jackson Parrish flew out to end the inning with Marked Tree up 1-0. The Greyhounds went down in order in the top of the second inning as Zac Lee and Conner Pulley both struck out before Glenn Carroll flew out for the third out. The Indians also went down in order in the bottom half as Nick Kinney struck out looking, Jarrett Harsson popped out and Hunter Criswell grounded out keeping the score 1-0 Indians.
Brody Allison beat out an infield single leading off the third inning for the Greyhounds as McKinney reached on an error. Juneau walked as Lewallen’s groundout scored Allison making it 3-1 Marked Tree. McKinney scored on a throwing area to make it 3-2 Indians as Juneau went to third. Lamar reached on a fielder’s choice before Tritch lifted a sacrifice fly that plated Juneau to tie the game at 3. Lee popped out for out number three. Marked Tree sent 20 batters to the plate in the bottom half scoring 11 runs to blow the game open. McCrary led off with a double and scored when Hutchens hit one in the gap for a triple making it 4-3 Marked Tree. Allen singled to score Hutchens making it 5-3 as Simmons reached on an error that sent Allen to third. Francis walked to load the bases before Parrish reached on an error that brought in Allen to make it 6-3 Indians. Kinney walked to score Simmons, Francis scored on a passed ball as Harsson reached on a fielder’s choice as Parrish scored making it 7-3. Criswell grounded out, McCrary reached on an error that plated Kinney making it 8-3 as Hutchens singled to bring in Harsson to make the score 9-3 Indians. Allen walked to load the bases before McCrary scored on a Simmons walked to make it 10-3. Francis struck out, Parrish walked to plate Hutchens making it 11-3, Kinney was hit by a pitch to score Allen to make it 12-3 before Harsson walked to plate Simmons making the score 13-3. Criswell reached on an error, McCrary singled to bring in McKinney to make it 14-3 as Criswell was forced at third base on a fielder’s choice from Hutchens to end the inning.
Pulley struck out leading off the top of the fourth inning as Carroll followed with a single. Allison struck out as McKinney popped out for the third out keeping the score 14-3 Indians. McKinney came on to pitch for the Greyhounds as Allen led off with an infield single for Marked Tree. Allen stole second base before Simmons and Francis both popped out. Parrish singled to score Allen making it 15-3 as Kinney reached on an error. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Harsson drew a walk and Criswell singled to score Parrish and Kinney making the score 17-3 Marked Tree. McCrary beat out an infield single as Hutchens was hit by a pitch to score Harsson making the score 18-3 Marked Tree ending the game via the run rule.
Allison had a hit and run scored to lead Marmaduke at the plate as McKinley and Juneau both scored a run. Carroll had a hit as Lamar and Tritch each had a RBI. Lamar took the loss as he pitched three innings giving up 14 runs on five hits with eight walks, two strikeouts and a hit batter. McKinney pitched one inning allowing four runs on four hits with one walk and a hit batter for the Greyhounds.
Hutchens had three hits, three runs scored, three RBIs and a stolen base to lead Marked Tree. Allen had two hits, three runs, one RBI and a stolen base, Parrish had a hit, three runs scored and two RBIs, McCrary had two hits, two runs scored and a RBI as Kinney scored two runs and two RBIs. Harsson had two runs scored and a RBI, Criswell had a hit and two RBIs, Simmons had two runs scored and a RBI as Francis scored a run for the Indians. Simmons got the pitching all four innings giving up three runs on two hits with two walks, five strikeouts and a hit batter.
The district is set for this week at Salem, with the top four advancing to next week's regional at EPC. This year's 2A state is at Pangburn.
