Tribe Track Team Tunes-Up for District

The Piggott Mohawk senior track teams tuned-up for the upcoming district with a strong showing at the Brother's Truck and Trailer Osceola Senior Seminole Relays on Tuesday, April 17. Both the boys and girls teams turned in good performances, as they both finished fourth among the six schools attending.

Girls Team

For the Lady Mohawks--Taylor Seal won the 100 meter race, the 100 meter hurdles, took second in the 200 and third in the long jump to pace the Tribe in points. Also getting a pair of first place finishes was Willow Lewis as she won the 800 and 3200 meter races. Shi Higdon ran fourth in the 400, Makayla Allman was fourth in the 1600 and Jordan Tate was sixth in the shot.

Boys Team

PHS senior standout Nate Mallard cruised to an easy win at Osceola, putting the shot 48 feet and one inch, over 11 feet further than second. Brett Burns ran another strong 1600, taking first and edging second by over 30 seconds; Gunner Shaw was first in the 100 meter dash with Sky Wright running third. Burns, Wright, Shaw and Spencer Hardin also took second in the 4x400. Dustin Arbuckle was second in the 3200; Jacob Scott ran third in the 200; Burns ran third in the 800; the 4x800 relay team took third with Matt Bowers, Brandon Wellman, Nick Maldanado and Corbin Midkiff each running legs; Ristol Payne was sixth in the 1600 and Zac Gilbee scored points in the 400 as he ran seventh.

Both teams will be in action on Friday at Osceola.
