Rector Area Mourns Loss of Cleta Simmons
Long-time local resident Cleta Simmons died Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Rector Nursing and Rehab. She was 104 years old. Simmons was born in August of 1913, in Rector, lived in the area throughout her life and was an active member of the community.
Cleta married Auda Lee Simmons in 1946, in Portageville, Mo., and the couple returned to the Rector area and farmed in the Blue Cane community until they eventually retired. She was a member of the Fifth and Pine Church of Christ for many years. She was also active as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Clay County Extension Homemakers Club and the Rector Woman's Club. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, cooking and needlework.
She was also an avid genealogist during her active years, and has provided a wealth of information and documentation on the history of her family and others. Much of this information is now preserved in the Genealogy and History Room of the Rector Public Library.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 29, at the Fifth and Pine Church of Christ in Rector. The family suggests memorials to the church, the Children's Home of Paragould or the Rector Helping Hands Foundation.
