Simmons to Compete in Statewide Pageant
Sophie Simmons, daughter of Stephen and Jamie Simmons of Rector, holds the title of Sweetheart of Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen. Beginning this weekend, she will be competing along with 35 other contestants for the title of Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen in a pageant being held in Little Rock. The talented young lady will be performing an acro-jazz number to “Throwback Love.” This routine is the performance she debuted at the Clay County Arts Council Celebration of the Arts, held Saturday evening at the Rector Community Center.
Her competition schedule includes private judges interview, talent and artistic expression, lifestyle and fitness, evening gown and on-stage questioning. Friday night's scheduled will include the finals-an experience she'll share with her father, as he will have the honor of escorting her. The young ladies involved in the competition range in age from 13 to 17.
Sophie’s platform is Fight Food Insecurity, and she has been working throughout the year bringing awareness to the issue which affects one-in-four children in Arkansas. In addition, Sophie is raising money for Children’s Miracle Network, the national platform for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization. She has received support from area businesses Honeysuckle and Home and The Treasure Chest for the silent auction basket she will provide.
The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, Inc. organization encourages positive achievement by helping to nurture and build the scholastic achievement, creative accomplishments and community involvement of our nation’s youth. To date they have distributed well over one million dollars in scholarship funds to teens. Those wanting additional information may visit www.maoteen.org
