City of Rector Awarded Grant Funding
Rector and Clay County leaders traveled to Little Rock last week for a grant check presentation ceremony at the capitol. During the ceremony, Governor Asa Hutchinson, AEDC Executive Director Mike Preston, AEDC Executive Vice President of Operations Amy Fecher and Rural Services Director Alex Johnston presented $353,727.64 to rural communities. The presentations were held Thursday, May 14, and included the communities selected for Fiscal Year 2018 Cycle II funding through the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Program.
Among those in attendance were representatives receiving an Arkansas Rural Community Development grant on behalf of City of Rector. The funds awarded to the city amounted to $10,383.98 and the monies will be used to replace an existing storm siren. Those attending from Rector included Mayor Teresa Roofe, council members Lark Sigsby and Iva Fahr and Todd Watson with the city. They were also joined by State Senator Blake Johnson of Corning.
The Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services works in partnership with the Arkansas Rural Development Commission to select the Arkansas Rural Community Grant Programs recipients. Incorporated cities and towns and unincorporated communities in rural areas of less than 3,000 in population are eligible to apply for assistance through the mayor or county judge’s office.
