Piggott Hosting Youth Baseball Tournament
Piggott's Independence Park is hosting the 2018 North Arkansas District 1 and 2 Baseball Tournament for 11 and 12 year olds this weekend. Teams will include three from Clay County as Rector, Corning and Piggott will all be in the bracket. The other five squads include Blytheville 11's Delta, Jonesboro, Paragould 11's, Tri-County and Pocahontas.
Pool play is set for Thursday and Friday evenings, with bracket play on Saturday and Sunday afternoon—although the schedule has been changed from the original.
There are now four games on the slate Thursday evening, with Paragould 11s taking on Corning and Rector facing Pocahontas in the 6 p.m. games. The two late games, scheduled for 8 p.m., will feature Piggott and the Blytheville 11's while the Rector squad will turn-around and play Corning as they'll have a twin-bill.
Friday evening there will be four more games, with the 6 p.m. games including Piggott taking on Tri-County along with the Blytheville 11s facing delta. The two late games, set for 8 p.m., will include Pocahontas taking on the Paragould 11's and Delta and Tri-County.
Bracket play will be going on beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday with four games on tap. The schedule will be based on seeding from pool play, with the remaining games set for 1, 3 and 5 p.m.
The top two teams in the 11's will meet in the championship game at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, with the winners of games 11 and 12 facing off at the same time.
All of the games will be played at Independence Park as organizers will utilize four of the fields. Organizers also noted some additional changes in schedule may be required prior to first pitch.
Several local teams will be playing in the North Arkansas District 2 Tournament at Osceola this weekend. Pool and bracket play will be going on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 15 to 17.
The Rector and Piggott 10-year-old squads will be in action, and both have games set for Friday evening. The Piggott squad will take on NEA while the Rector team will face Delta, with both games set to begin at 6 p.m. The 8 p.m. game will feature Osceola and Pocahontas.
In pool play on Saturday, Rector faces Pocahontas and Piggott meets Delta with both games set to begin at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the 3 p.m. game will pit Osceola against NEA.
Bracket play will commence at 5 p.m. on Saturday, with seeding based on the earlier contests. The bracket play will continue on Sunday with games at 1 and 3, and the participants based on earlier wins and seeding.
Piggott is also fielding an eight and under team, and is scheduled to play the NEA Blue team at 6 p.m. on Friday, and will follow that up with a contest against NEA 7's MOJO at 7:30.
Eight year old bracket play will be played Saturday, with games at 11 a.m., 12:30, 2 and 3 p.m. with the schedule to be determined by seeding and earlier wins. Seven year old bracket play is set for Saturday evening.
The eight year old championship game is set for 1 p.m. Sunday with the seven year old bracket championship, if necessary, to be played at 2:30.
