The Piggott Junior Babe Ruth baseball team competed in their district tournament this past weekend. The local squad made the fairly short trip to Monette for the tourney, and edged the team from Buffalo Island Central in the best-of-three series to take the 2018 district title.

With only the two teams in the bracket, the local squad would only need to notch a pair of wins over the Mustangs of BIC to earn the District Two championship.

In the first game of the set the Piggott squad had no trouble with the Mustangs, as the Mohawk bats came alive and they rolled to a 14 to 5 victory.

In the second game the Piggott squad was able to scratch-out a 6 to 5 victory to avoid playing the third game to decide the title.

With the win the Piggott team qualifies for the Arkansas Babe Ruth State Tournament, set for July 6 to 8, in the Harrison Parks and Recreation complex in Harrison.

Members of the Junior Babe Ruth District Two champions from Piggott includes Brandon Seal, Nate Lemmons, Brandon Palmer, Wyatt Crabtree, Logan Ralph, Kase Gookin, Austin Fair, Hayden Emerson, Tanner Dixon, Clayton Kemp and Holden Tarno.
