Single Vehicle Crash Claims Local Teen
The Arkansas State Police report a single vehicle crash north of Corning has claimed the life of a local teen. According to the preliminary fatal crash report on the ASP website, the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, on Clay County Road 181 northeast of Corning.
The report indicated a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup was being driven southbound at the time of the crash, although the driver was not identified due to the fact he was a minor. According to the narative, the pickup ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver. He was prounced dead at the scene by Clay County Coroner Jarred Lowe and the body was transported to Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott.
The crash was investigated by Corporal Anthony Hill, of the ASP, who indicated conditions were clear and the roadway dry at the time.
Friends and acquaintances later identified the victim by way of social media as Gage Dodd, 17, of Knobel. Dodd, who worked on the family farm in west Clay County, was a student at Piggott High School and was set to begin his senior year at PHS in August.
Funeral services for Dodd were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in the Piggott High School gymnasium with Brother Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed services in the Nimmons Cemetery, at Nimmons, Ark. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.
Serving as pallbearers were Elijah Bellers, Dylan Bellers, Hayden Lemmons, Spencer Hardin, Sky Wright and Ryan Stormes. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Piggott High School Mohawk football team and Nathan Bass.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-9959.
