Pollard Picnic 2018 Held
Despite one of the hottest days of the year, good crowds were the order of the day Saturday, July 14, as the annual Pollard Picnic was held. Each year the event is held at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefitting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.
Early Saturday morning the 2018 edition of the picnic was officially opened with Gary Conley once again serving as the master of ceremonies. A handful of local officials were also in attendance, and spoke to the early-morning crowd. Included were Clay County Judge Mike Patterson, State Rep. Joe Jett, of Success and Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller.
In keeping with tradition, those attending this year's picnic were treated to a full slate of games, entertainment and softball games--and had the chance to enjoy a number of food booths, along with the traditional chicken dinners served in the kitchen.
The day also included the usual pageants, culminating with the Miss Pollard pageant Saturday evening. Crowned as Miss Pollard this year was Pacey Risner, of Piggott. She was also crowned Junior Miss Pollard at last year's event. All of the pageant winners may be found in this week's print edition of the CCTD.
The picnic also included a silent auction, and a variety of drawings were held as well. This year's winners were—Bradley Shepherd won the $50 prize, Shawn Riddle won the $100 drawing, Winnona Baker won the quilt, J.R. Bird won the gun, Christine Collins was winner of the 50/50 drawing, Wayne Hendley won the Pelican Bass Boat, Judy Moffitt was the winner of the Green Mountain Pellet Grill, Rob Chandler won the Stihl chainsaw and LeWana Breece was the winner of the Michael Kors Purse.
Picnic organizers offered their thanks to all those who attended, donated items or volunteered their time to make the event a success.
