Piggott School Board Meets, Rector Preps for Classes
With classes now less than two weeks away, local school districts are prepping for the year to come.
Piggott School Board Meets
With only three members constituting a quorum, the Piggott School Board met in special session Monday evening at the administration building.
After about an hour in executive session, the board reconvened. Superintendent Barry DeHart then recommended the board accept the resignations of fourth grade teacher Christy Wortham, band director Jeremy Wortham and elementary school nurse Sherry Hester. The board unanimously voted to accept all resignations.
In addition, the board unanimously approved the hire of Andrew Rathel as the new elementary school nurse. DeHart also encouraged the board to approve the hiring of Johnny Gardner as the resource officer for both campuses for the 2018-2019 school year. The three members unanimously approved the hire.
Also, the board unanimously approved the Microsoft renewal for a year with a quantity of 100, with a total cost of $4,600.
After a brief discussion, members unanimously agreed to keep the charge policy for students at $50 per child.
Members Jennifer Rahn and Jim Threatt were not in attendance at the special meeting.
Rector Registration Set
With classes set to begin in just weeks, registration and open houses have been set for Rector Schools.
Registration will be held beginning today, Wednesday, Aug. 1, with eighth graders registering, and confirming their class schedule, in the morning and seventh graders during the afternoon. New students may also register at those times, and will need to provide a birth certificate, social security card and health record (immunization record). The high school counselor, Christin Holmes, will send for all school records. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors registered earlier in the week.
Elementary school students’ registration information and school records remain current unless changes are made by parent or guardian. Anthony Dowdy, elementary principal said, “New students can come by the elementary school at any time since counselor Pam Mills is already on campus. New students should present birth certificate, social security card immunization records. Mrs. Mills will send for any school records.”
Open house for both Rector High School and Rector Elementary School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. The first day for classes will be Monday, Aug. 13.
