Clay County Fair is at Hand
The Clay County Fair will be held Wednesday through Saturday, Sept. 12 to 15, at the fairgrounds in Piggott. In a change made several years ago, the annual pageants held in conjunction with the fair have been moved back to the Saturday before the start, to allow use of the commercial building during the event. The pageants will be held beginning at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 8, with the Baby Mr. and Miss Clay County pageants, and will continue throughout the day. The complete schedule of pageants, with the pertinent contact information, may be found in our print edition.
Activities at the fair will continue Wednesday, Sept. 12, with set-up of booths and check-in of livestock and horses. Thursday will include judging and youth day activities are on tap for Friday. Slated for this year's Youth Day are a performance by Rocky Clement's Show of Wonders, a tour of the exhibit buildings, the FFA animal show exhibit and a visit from Survival Flight and their helicopter. Also taking part will be the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Piggott Police Department, :Piggott Community Hospital Ambulance Service and the Piggott Fire Department.
The UofA inflatable BB gun range is also scheduled to return, and the 4H Smoothie Bike will be featured.
Open rodeo action will be featured on Friday evening, set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the arena. Additional information may be found elsewhere in this edition, or participants may call 573 624-2830.
Saturday's activities include the annual parade at 10 a.m., which will line-up at the First Baptist Church and make its way to the fairgrounds. Beginning at 1 p.m. the 32nd annual canine contest will be held. Antique tractors will also be on display following the parade.
