Fire heavily damaged a home on the east side of Piggott last week, and the cause has been deemed suspicious. Piggott firefighters responded to the house in the 300 block of East Castleberry around mid-day on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Fire personnel were summoned to the residence just after 1 p.m. on the report of heavy smoke rolling from the eves of the structure.

Initially informed there were occupants, the Piggott firefighters aggressively entered the home but found no one inside. What they did find were containers which contained suspected accelerant, prompting them to contact the state fire marshal and Arkansas State Police.

Luckily, the fire was quickly extinguished and no firefighters were injured in battling the blaze.

The home is the property of Chris Tarno, and the tenant was listed as Morgan Burns. He was not at home at the time of the fire.

At last report the investigation into the cause of the blaze continued.
