Lady Mohawk Volleyball Update

As the season begins to wind-down, the Lady Mohawk volleyball teams have remained active. Last Tuesday they hosted league leading Hoxie and split with the Lady Mustangs. Tuesday evening they made the long trip to Palestine-Wheatley and swept the Lady Patriots.

In the early match, the junior Lady Mohawks battled back from a one-set deficit to take the match 2-1. Hoxie won the first set 18-25, but the Mohawks responded with a 25-22 win in the second then held-on to post a 17-15 win in the third to take the match.

In the late match the Tribe wasn't so lucky, as they fell to the undefeated Lady Mustangs in four setsó25-23, 21-25, 11-25 and 8-25.

Thursday evening the teams made the long drive to Cave City to complete the home-and-away set with the Lady Cavemen and swept the junior and senior matches.

In the early match, the junior Lady Mohawks posted the win 25-19 and 25-16. On the night, Elise Gossett had a 90 percent on serve receive; Taylor Smart had eight digs and an ace; Ryleigh Latham had six digs and was perfect from the serving line with 12 serves and an ace while Grace Hooten and Alyssa Manor had four kills each in the win.

In the late match, the Lady Mohawks rolled over their hosts 25-20, 25-17 and 25-11 for the conference win. Madison Rahn had 23 assists, 10 digs and six kills; Clarie Bellers finished with four aces, 10 digs and eight kills; macey Williams had nine digs; Carlie Vancil had seven digs; Bailey Davis had six digs and six kills; Annalee Massey had two kills, Harley Earnheart had two kills and three blocks and Jordan Tate had five kills and four blocks in the victory.

Monday night the Harrisburg Hornets visited PHS, and both squads swept the Lady Hornets.

The junior girls prevailed 25-18 and 25-11, with Emma Langley recording two aces and 16 assists; while Hooten had two aces, five kills and two digs; Manor finished with four kills and Gossett had two aces, three kills and five digs.

The senior girls also won, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-7. Rahn had five aces, 33 assists and four digs; Davis had six kills, Bellers had three aces, 10 kills and nine digs, Massey had four kills, three aces and a block; Tate had seven kills and a block; Earnheart had four kills; Williams had 10 digs and five aces and Vancil had two aces and six digs.

Tuesday evening both the junior high and senior high teams swept Pal-Wheatley in straight sets.

Junior and senior high will host Newport Thursday, Oct. 4, with first serve at 4:30. Monday evening they'll visit Trumann and Tuesday Walnut Ridge comes to town for a key conference set. Next Thursday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 13, PHS will be hosting the 3A-East junior district tourney.
