The Piggott Junior Lady Mohawk volleyball team hosted the 3A-East volleyball tournament in the past week, and took second place to top-seeded Trumann. As the third seeded team, the Tribe eliminated Cedar Ridge and second-seeded Hoxie en route to the championship match.

The Mohawks took their first round match with Cedar Ridge with ease, winning 25-11 and 25-8. On the match, Emma Riddle had four kills and three digs; Elise Gossett had eight digs, Ryleigh Latham had four aces and four digs; Emma Langley had 14 assists and Taylor Smart finished with six digs.

In the semi-finals the Tribe drew Hoxie, as they advanced over Cave City, and stunned the Lady Mustangs 25-20 and 25-18 in a mild upset. In the win, Gossett had five kills and seven aces; Langley had 11 assists and five digs; Riddle had four aces and Smart finished with 10 digs.

In the top half of the bracket Trumann had advanced with wins over Newport and Walnut Ridge, setting up the championship match. Getting off to a slow start, the Tribe dropped the first set 15-24. In the second they put up a strong effort, but faded late, as they fell 24-26.

Smart had nine digs in the title match, Grace Hooten had two aces and five kills; Kalaya Cole had two kills, while Langley and Latham finished with five digs each.

With only four freshmen on the squad, the team will return a wealth of starting talent to next year's squad for Coach Shelby Slaven and assistant Melissa Hopkins.
