Junior Cougars End Season with Win
The Rector Junior Cougars closed out their season with a home win on Thursday, Oct. 25, beating Marked Tree 18-8.
The host team got on the scoreboard first in the ballgame, swarming the Indians for a safety on a bad snap. The remainder of the game they held the MT squad to a single touchdown while adding a pair of scores of their own.
Rector added to their tally with 6:02 left in the third quarter as John Ford Hendrix scored on an 11 yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jerron Bucy hit Sam Shipley on a pass play for the two point conversion as the boys in blue took the lead.
The Cougars would add one more touchdown late in the contest, as Connor McCluskey scored on a seven yard run with just 56 seconds left in regulation. Jackson Hill provided the conversion this time, as the final score was set.
Hendrix led the offensive effort with 108 yards rushing, and one touchdown, while McCluskey was close behind with 103 yards rushing-including 78 yards after contact, and the other TD.
Logan Emerline led the defensive effort with eight tackles, including two sacks of the Indian quarterback. Meanwhile, Jacob Cox had an interception for the Cougars in the win.
