Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller reports a Virginia man was killed the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 2, when the helicopter he was piloting crashed in a field west of McDougal. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in a farm field north of U.S. Highway 62, and less than 100 yards east of County Road 245.

According to Sheriff Miller, Erik John Raisanen, of Hampton, Va., was piloting a helicopter being used to work on power lines in the field at the time of the accident. He was working for Air2, which was contracted by Entergy Arkansas.

Details concerning the crash are sketchy, but when first responders arrived on the scene they found the broken copter on its side in the shallow water of the field. Raisanen's body was removed a short time later and the scene was secured for investigators by a deputy.

Miller indicated the body would be sent to the state crime lab for determination of the cause of death. He also noted the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board would be notified and involved in the investigation.
