The Rector Lady Cougars came up just short Monday night, dropping a road conference game at Sloan-Hendrix by a final of 45-44. Leading the way for the RHS girls were seniors Ellie Ford with 11 and Gabby Clark with 10. In the early contest, the host Lady Greyhounds prevailed in the junior high game by a final of 35-30.

Friday evening the Lady Cougars took on the Lady Rams at Paragould and fell by a final of 64-34. The host team jumped to the early lead, taking a 21-9 advantage after the first quarter. They extended their lead in all three of the remaining frames to set the final.

The RHS senior girls now stand at 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. They'll remain idle through the Thanksgiving holiday and will be in action at Riverside on Monday, Nov. 26. They'll also be competing in the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament in the coming week, and are the seventh seeded team in the bracket.

The Rector Cougars were scheduled to visit Sloan-Hendrix Tuesday evening, although scores and stats were not available as of press time. Last Thursday the RHS boys hosted Corning in non-conference play, and fell by two points to the Bobcats.

Coming off their season-opening win over Armorel, the boys in blue got off to a strong start against their county rivals and enjoyed an 18-17 lead after one. But, the second frame went to the Bobcats, as they pulled to a 37-34 advantage at intermission.

The visitors also outscored the Cougars in the third, taking the frame 20-15 to take a 57-49 lead into the fourth quarter. And, despite a strong fourth quarter by the RHS squad, the visiting team held on for the two point win.

In addition to Tuesday night's conference game with Sloan-Hendrix, the Cougars are slated to take part in the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament, set to begin next week. They're also scheduled to visit the Riverside Rebels on Tuesday, Nov. 27, in conference play. Then, on Thursday, Nov. 29, they'll host the Piggott Mohawks in non-conference play.
