Senior Kale Hardin recorded a double-double last week, as the Rector Cougars notched a 63-61 conference win over Sloan-Hendrix at Imboden. Tuesday evening the boys in blue visit Riverside in conference play, and pounded their hosts 58-35 and Wednesday they advanced to the semifinals of the WBU tourney at Walnut Ridge.

The Cougars rolled to an early lead in their contest with the Greyhounds, then weathered a late charge by the home team to post the win. Getting off to a hot start, the Cougars led 19-11 by the end of the first quarter, with the host team cutting it to a 29-24 advantage by intermission.

The lead remained at five points for RHS in the third, as they took a 41-36 lead into the fourth quarter. Down the stretch the home team made a run, but the Cougars held-on for the two point win.

Hardin led the effort with 19 points and 10 rebounds, with fellow senior Trey Rodden adding 18 points as he hit five three-pointers in the game. Also in double figures for Rector were Adam Romine with 14 and Max Ford with 12.

Tuesday evening Rodden led the attack with 30 points, including eight three-pointers, as the Cougar beat the Rebels in conference play. Wednesday evening Ford proved to be the hero, hitting a three-point basket with 3.5 seconds to play as he lifted the Cougars over Pocahontas 40-39. Hardin had 13 to lead the team, and Rodden was also in double figures with 11.

The Cougars will now play top-seeded Tuckerman in the semi-finals, set for 8:30 tonight, Thursday, Nov. 29. With a win they'll advance to the championship game, set for 7:30 Friday evening at WBU. Due to the fact the Cougars won Wednesday, Thursday night's regular season game with the Piggott Mohawks will be rescheduled. They'll continue conference play on Tuesday, Dec. 4, as they're slated to host the Mustangs of Buffalo Island Central, and on Thursday, Dec. 6, they're scheduled to host Maynard in a non-conference set with the Lady Cougars.

Lady Cougars

The Rector Lady Cougars traveled to Caraway Monday night for a conference set with the Riverside Lady Rebels. Gaining a split on the night, the Rector junior girls won their contest by a field goal while the senior squad fell by a wide margin to the potent Lady Rebels.

In the varsity contest, the host squad jumped to an early lead and enjoyed a 21-11 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Rebels extended the lead to 37-13 with a display of stifling defense in the second, and enjoyed a 49-21 advantage entering the fourth quarter as they cruised to a 57-28 win.

Riverside had three players score in double figures on the night while the Lady Cougars were paced by senior Gabby Clark with 12.

With the loss the Rector girls move to 4-3 overall, and 0-2 in 2A-3 conference play, while Riverside extends their record to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

In the early game the Rector junior girls notched a narrow win, taking the contest 29-27.

The RHS senior girls were also in action this week in the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament but fell to Corning in their first round game. They're also slated to host BIC in conference play Monday, Dec. 3, at Rector High School.
