Early Voting Underway for Runoff

Thursday, November 29, 2018

Early voting is underway in the runoff election for Piggott City Council, South Ward, Position Two. Voters may cast their ballots at the Clay County courthouse in Piggott from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. The polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for the runoff.

The race pits incumbent Piggott City Councilman Jamey Parks against challenger Brent Sanders. The two received the most votes in the General Election in a three-man race, although neither gained a wide enough margin to avoid the runoff.

Parks is approaching the end of his second four year term, and is the only member of council to complete the Arkansas Municipal League training to be certified. He works as a part of the family business, Cox Lumber Company.

Sanders is a local native, works for CenturyLink and formerly owned and operated a small business. He is a newcomer to the local political scene and is seeking public office for the first time.

The race for Piggott City Council is the only one to be decided in the runoff election.
